Value the Right Opposition

When you are making exciting advances in your life and career, this is about the time your opposition emerges. There are two types of opposition. What’s important is knowing how to distinguish between the two.

The strategy I’m about to share with you is worth its weight in gold:

“The right opposition will only oppose your perspective…not your identity, credibility, and/or reputation. The wrong opposition will not only oppose your perspective…but will, in addition, oppose you by trying to sabotage your identity, credibility, and reputation.”

The right opposition will also challenge you to think about another perspective that will add value to your growth and mastery. They value you and care about your progress. We sometimes take their advice for granted because we may think they are not supporting us. Value this opposition.

In terms of leadership, this aligns with the principle that effective leadership unites the leader's mastery and vision with the individual mastery of others. The right opposition personifies this principle by offering perspectives and guidance that help enhance a leader’s mastery and vision, thereby supporting collective success.

The wrong opposition will “always” go after your identity, credibility, and/or reputation because of the lack of value they see within themselves. Most of the time, you cannot change their response or actions, but you can reduce or remove them from your space.

Conclusion 

In life and leadership, understanding the type of opposition you face can make all the difference. The right opposition, although challenging, can be a powerful ally in achieving and sustaining successful results. Embrace their perspectives for growth and collective mastery. On the other hand, reduce or remove the wrong opposition that aims to undermine and distract you. Value the guidance that truly seeks to uplift you and your leadership growth.
